Talent works is an LCC programme that provides second year students with paid work experience on a range of creative communications projects with local community groups, charities and social enterprises. LCC staff in Business & Innovation arrange and manage the project, creating opportunities for students to work on live briefs in a supportive environment.
In 2023, Talent Works was sponsored by Wix Playground in a collaboration involving students from a number of courses to design and build new websites and media content for Southwark-based organisations.
Over 2 weeks, students developed skills in research, design, website ideation, mood-boarding, pitching, teamwork and project management, working in small teams. The new websites needed to reflect each organisation’s mission and brand in order to help them increase their impact in the communities they work with.
Second year GMD student, Leyang Ye, reflects on the Talent Works experience:
In the Talent Works projects, my classmates and I formed a team to communicate and cooperate in work. I learned how to communicate positively with a client, how to meet their needs, how to change my design with client feedback, how to present and explain our design results to the client and so on.
I think I will recommend other students to join Talent Works projects. Talent Works offers me a good opportunity to get in touch with a more commercial and mature design and working style. I have an experience of designing and landing projects for a real client. This is a good transition from university to society, and it also helps students to clarify their future career goals.”
8 second year GMD students – Vitalina Virupajeva, Victoria Schlienkamp, Siya Golecha, Suhani Tibrewal, ZeeAnn Luo, Leyang Ye, Uday Pal-Trabelsi and Wandi Chen – were involved in the project, and were part of the teams that created websites for:
