System Hacker – A GMD Publication
GMD has published a newspaper that platforms work produced by second year students during the System Hacker project in 2021. The project encourages students to question the communication systems that surround us by altering, shifting and distorting their content and structures.
The publication features a selected range of visual responses to the challenge to reverse engineer existing material, then to rebuild and decontextualise their creations. There are also examples of interactive experiments and interventions into pre-printed narratives in order to reveal new meaning and inspiration that is embedded within these pages.
The workshops were a place to make and think, to process and to react. These examples are explorative and have a raw energy that reflects the open nature of the endeavour. The aim was to unlock innovative ways of working and to engage with generative methods of discovery. The project was run by GMD tutors Tim Hutchinson and Ronnie Deelen.
