MozEx is a digital art exhibition curated by the digital learning teams at both Tate and the V&A, for MozFest, Mozilla’s annual celebration of the diverse, creative internet community and the greater open Internet movement, 28-30 October 2016.

MozEx is an art exhibition with a 21st century twist, showcasing dynamic digital artwork that spans many disciplines and media. It is curated by Luca M Damiani (Artist, Tate Digital Producer and GMD Associate Lecturer) and Irini Papadimitriou (Curator and V&A Digital Programme Manager). The MozEx exhibit explores links between art, society, and the digital world. Created by both individual practitioners and cross-disciplinary collaborations, the exhibit navigates the value of art to society through web literacy, digital inclusion and accessibility, privacy, policy and hacking.

Recent GMD graduate John Philip Sage was given the opportunity to work on the project and reflects on his experience:

“I worked as a designer, mainly on the MozEx catalogue, the exhibit/experience interpretation labels and editing a video for the MozEx show-case. The catalogue is designed to be both digital and printed, and compiles the 53 artworks exhibited at MozEx. The book design has mostly been a freelance job, but I also got to work in the Digital Learning Studio at Tate Britain. This allowed me to meet some of the artists that took part in the exhibition too, testing/prepping for the show whilst I was working on the catalogue on-site. In addition I helped on the Digital Artists Show&Tell event related to MozEx (part of Tate Exchange), where practitioners were sharing their art and design processes and running digital art workshops. Very exciting!

I also took part/helped in the set up of the exhibition – I was in charge of setting up the interpretation labels that I had designed for each piece and I also assisted in the overall realisation of the experience.

The work flow has been really good and effective. It has been a very interesting and productive opportunity to be able to work with the digital learning teams at both Tate and V&A. This project goes straight into my CV and portfolio! I am very grateful that I got the chance to work with Luca M Damiani and Irini Papadimitriou.”
