 LCC NAFA STUDENT PROGRAMME 2024

During February and March 2024, GMD Year 2 welcomed twelve students from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) for a seven week programme. The students undertook the Situating Practice studio briefs: New Forms, Time Capsule, Access All Areas and Memory Palace. Their final design outcomes were displayed in a celebratory NAFA exhibition at Chelsea College of Arts.

During the NAFA programme, students were encouraged to explore and immerse themselves in the vibrant and dynamic LCC/UAL and wider city of London cultural environments, offering opportunities for academic and personal growth. The innovative studio projects encouraged creative exploration and critical thinking within the context of contemporary graphic communication design education at LCC.

My LCC GMD experience has been a blast! In this short time, my design perspective has expanded. Grateful to all the incredible tutors and workshop technicians who have supported me in this journey.”
Megan Chia

A highlight of the NAFA programme was the opportunity to participate in the NAFA exhibition. This celebratory event provided a platform for students to showcase their work and engage with peers, faculty and industry professionals. It was a culmination of weeks of design research, problem solving, iterative conceptual development and experimentation with production processes.

Preparation for the NAFA exhibition involved refining and curating original concepts, developing practical exhibition installation skills and collaborating with fellow students. It was a hands-on learning experience that challenged students to push the boundaries of their creativity and develop a professional, public-facing portfolio.

Grateful for the opportunity to attend classes at LCC. The studio sessions and workshops encouraged me to push boundaries and experiment with design like never before.”
Natalin Pwee

The NAFA exhibition was a celebration of multi-disciplinary talent featuring a wide range of approaches, mediums and design disciplines undertaken in the LCC workshop facilities including; typography, drawing, image-making, photography, animation, 2D/3D, projection mapping, combined digital and analogue print production processes e.g. relief and riso printing, and book binding techniques.

Participation in the NAFA exhibition not only allowed students to showcase their work to their peers and academics in a professional context, but also provided valuable networking opportunities and feedback from experts in the field, preparing students for future careers within the creative design industries.

LCC provides a great variety of opportunities to learn new skills with their extensive workshops. The lecturers encourage our creativity and push us to go beyond.”

We look forward to welcoming NAFA students to LCC again in 2025.
