The new first year GMD students are now approaching the midway point through a radically revised unit, ‘Introduction to GMD’. All students were invited to bring with them an object, approximately hand sized, that has material or physical value but also, more importantly, personal meaning – family heirlooms, cultural artifacts and some fascinating curios.

These ‘Objects of Provenance’ are key in bringing together an incredibly diverse group of new students, recognising individual cultural points of difference as well as shared values.

A variety of exercises, practical as well as critical, will culminate in small group presentations focusing upon provenance and cultural identity, whilst not forgetting the essential deployment and exploration of key graphic and media design skills and processes.
