Overview of the exhibition

Established around 1827, Caroline Gardens Chapel in Peckham formed the heart of London’s largest complex of almshouses (charitable housing) originally known as the Licensed Victuallers’ Benevolent Institution Asylum (LVBI). The Asylum was bombed during the Second World War and the Asylum Chapel was almost completely gutted – with the astonishing exception of its iconic stained-glass windows and fascinating collection of carved stone funerary monuments.

This unique historic site provided the backdrop for the GMD Year 2 exhibition, ‘Framework’ in February 2026, showcasing students’ moving image, typographic posters and publications.
